Birthday parties

A space birthday party where the crew builds and launches real rockets

Ninety minutes, run by a space engineer who builds Moon rovers for a living. We bring everything, we clear up afterwards, and every child goes home with the rocket they built.

✓  DBS checked. Fully insured. Ages 6 to 11.

How the party runs

Ninety minutes from
briefing to launch-off

1

Meet a space engineer

The crew hears what the job actually involves, from Moon rovers to satellites.

2

Split into teams

Two crews, named by the children, building against each other.

3

Design and build

Every child builds their own, with the team working out what makes it fly higher.

4

The launch-off

We measure every flight. There is a prize for the highest and a prize for the best design.

5

Work out why

We figure out together why the winning design won, which is the part they argue about happily for a while.

The birthday child leads the mission as Commander. Every child takes their build home.

Choose your mission

Pick the mission
your crew will love

Every mission is a hands-on engineering birthday party, pitched to the age of the crew: a first rocket birthday party at six, and a proper science party for 10 year olds who want to know why their design flew.

Questions

Things parents
usually ask us

Something else on your mind? Email [email protected] or call 07873 621402 and we will reply within one working day. Cancellations and payment are covered in our party booking terms.

What ages are your parties for?

Our parties are built for 6 to 11 year olds, which is the age group we teach every week in schools. If your crew is younger, tell us their ages and we will talk it through.

How many children can come?

Up to 20. The price covers 10 children, and each extra child is £12. Ten to fifteen is the sweet spot for the build and the launch-off.

Is there time for food?

The 90 minutes is all activity, from briefing to launch-off. Plan food and cake before or after, and the finished rockets make a great centrepiece on the table.

Do we need a garden?

It helps for rocket launches, and roughly 20 metres is plenty. A park round the corner works. If the weather turns, we adapt and launch indoors.

What do we need to provide?

A room with floor or table space. A wipeable table cover is handy if you have one. Everything else comes with us.

Is there a competition?

Yes, and it is usually the best part. Two teams, a launch-off at the end, prizes for the highest flight and the best design. It is a friendly competition, and every child goes home with their build.

Who runs the party?

A DBS-checked space engineer. For most parties that is Mirko, our founder, whose day job is building rovers for the Moon and communication satellites.

How far do you travel?

Travel is free within 20 miles of our local teams in Hampshire (including Portsmouth, Southsea, Havant, Waterlooville and Southampton), London, Essex and York. For Oxford, Cambridge, Leeds, Bradford, Manchester and Liverpool, and further afield, a tutor travels in: we charge 45p a mile for the distance beyond 20 miles, there and back, and your quote shows it up front.

How far ahead should we book?

Weekend dates go 4 to 6 weeks ahead, and school-holiday dates sooner.

How do we pay?

You pay in full to confirm the date, by bank transfer or card.

What if we need to cancel?

With 2 weeks’ notice or more, we refund everything you have paid or move the date free of charge. Between 1 and 2 weeks, we refund it minus a 10% admin fee. In the final week we keep the payment, because your tutor’s time and the materials are already paid for. If your child is unwell in the final week, we move the party once for free. The party booking terms have the full details.
