Our flagship role
A Mission Specialist is what we call our tutors, and the title isn’t decorative. You run the session. You deliver the mission briefing, guide children through the build challenge, push them further in the challenge round, and hold the debrief at the end.
We hire for how you communicate, how you adapt in the room, and how much you genuinely enjoy working with children. We teach you the rest. The space content, the session structure, the material handling, all of that comes through our Mission Specialist training programme, which every new tutor completes before running their first session.
You don’t need a science or engineering degree. You do need to be comfortable leading a group of 12โ16 primary school children through a 60-minute session, thinking on your feet when something doesn’t work as planned, and finding the thing that makes each child’s eyes light up.
What we look for
Genuine enjoyment of children
Not tolerance, enjoyment. The energy in a session comes from the tutor. Children feel the difference immediately.
Confident room presence
You can hold attention, redirect energy, and keep a group of excited seven-year-olds on mission. Experience in teaching, youth work, coaching or performance all transfer well.
Comfort with ambiguity
Sessions don’t always go to plan. Circuits fail, builds collapse, children go off-script. We want people who find that exciting, not stressful.
Care about the mission
We’re a CIC building STEAM access in primary schools. The people who work best here are the ones for whom that genuinely matters, not just a job that fits around something else.
What you don’t need
โ A degree in science, engineering or education
โ Prior knowledge of space or spacecraft
โ A teaching qualification
โ Previous experience with STEAM clubs specifically
The training programme
Application review
We read every application. If you look like a fit, we’ll reach out within a week for an initial conversation.
Discovery call
30 minutes with Mirko or a senior Mission Specialist. We ask about you; you ask about us. No trick questions.
Session observation
You come and watch a live Louno Space session before you’re assessed on anything. See the standard we’re aiming for.
Mission Specialist training
Paid training covering session structure, STEAM content, safeguarding, behaviour management and material handling.
First mission
Your first session runs supported by a senior Mission Specialist. Debrief follows. Then you fly solo.
All open roles
About the role
Deliver weekly 60-minute Louno Space sessions in primary schools. You plan nothing, sessions are fully designed. You show up, deliver with energy, and help children build, experiment and think like engineers.
Commitment
โ 1โ3 sessions per week, typically 3:00โ4:30pm
โ Term-time only
โ Paid training before your first session
You might come from
โ Teaching, tutoring or TA work
โ Youth work, scouting, sports coaching
โ Science, engineering or creative arts
โ Theatre, performance or facilitation
โ Anywhere, if you’re brilliant with children
About the role
Run full-day Space Camp sessions during summer, half-terms and Easter. Longer, more complex projects than a weekly session, you’ll be guiding children through multi-day builds and the Friday family showcase.
Commitment
โ 9:00amโ3:30pm during school holiday weeks
โ Paid daily rate, higher than sessional rate
โ Works well alongside a weekly club role
Ideal if you
โ Want to work intensively with children over a week
โ Can sustain energy across a full day
โ Love the longer project format
โ Are a teacher looking for holiday work
About the role
Deliver our free school assemblies and help open doors to new schools. You’ll be the person in front of 300 children talking about space and engineering, then following up with teachers and headteachers about hosting a club.
Commitment
โ Assembly delivery during school hours
โ Flexible, fits around other commitments
โ Paid per assembly plus travel
You’ll thrive if you
โ Are genuinely comfortable presenting to large groups
โ Can talk about space and engineering accessibly
โ Have a background in education, outreach or comms
โ Are a STEM professional wanting community impact
About this route
If you don’t fit neatly into one of the roles above but think you have something to offer Louno Space, tell us. We’re a small, growing team and we’ve found some of our best people this way. Curriculum developers, photographers, marketing and comms people, fundraisers, operations, we need all of it eventually.
What to include
โ What you do and what you’re good at
โ Why Louno Space specifically
โ What kind of involvement you’re looking for
โ Whether you’re looking for paid or volunteer work
